Readings

In His Presence

As we strive to know God more intimately in this new year, may we take time
every day to meet our God in His Word and in prayer. The following scriptures are offered as a way to guide us through the reading of the Bible in 2009. Each day we will read a chapter or two from the Old Testament and a chapter or two from the New Testament. The following prayers are offered as a way for you to begin your prayer time, not as complete prayers. May your heart be touched by the power of the Holy Spirit and may your understanding and love of God in Jesus Christ grow and deepen with every word read and with every prayer prayed.

                                                                                         January 17th – January 23rd

Sunday: Read John 3:1-15
Almighty God, May the only sign I need to believe fully be that of your death on the cross. Fill me with the power of your Holy Spirit that my faith may grow as I study your Word ad spend time with you in worship and prayer….Amen.

Monday: Read John 3:16
Lord Jesus, What a familiar verse this is to almost everyone. Help me to sit quietly as I reflect upon its meaning in my life and soul. Help me, I pray, to not just know in my mind the meaning of its words but to experience their meaning in my heart and soul….Amen.

Tuesday: Read John 3:17-21
Lord God, I pray for your grace that will enable me to be one of the ones who is not ashamed or afraid for my deeds to be seen in the light. I pray that my walk with you would grow to the point where all I do brings glory and honor to your name….Amen.

Wednesday: Read John 3:22-36
Almighty God, How difficult it is for we humans to never want to disobey your word to us. Yet we know that is what you call us to strive for. I pray that I will be able to open myself to your grace and to the power of your Holy Spirit that I may grow in faith and trust until I find myself wanting to obey your every command….Amen.

Thursday: Read John 4:1-38
Lord Jesus, At times it can be a very unsettling thought to realize that you know everything about us and at others times it is a very comforting thought. Help me in your grace to realize that in all honesty it is really a good thing all of the time for when I stray it is then that your Spirit speaks to me to bring me back to you…..Amen.

Friday: Read John 4:39-45
Dear Jesus, Just as that woman at the well was given an opportunity to bring others to you, you give to each of us that same opportunity. May I have the grace and courage to do exactly that when you give to me the opportunity……Amen.

Saturday: Read John 4:46-54
Lord God, On this day I pray not only that you would heal me physically of anything that may be wrong, but more so I pray that you would heal my soul of anything that is keeping my relationship with you from being all it can be. Help me to know the unimaginable joy and peace that is you….Amen.
